Introduction of AGFL

The Applied Gas Flow Laboratory in Korea Aerospace University conducts research on variety of thermal-fluid dynamics subjects while educating graduate and undergraduate students. Our objective is to perform high-quality research while educating students in the research process, including the design of experiments, data collection and analysis, and physical understanding.

Our research focuses on experimental thermal-fluid dynamics with specialties in high-speed flows including shock/boundary-layer interactions, thrust-vector controls, flow control, supersonic base flows, and supersonic nozzle designs applicable to laser machining and abrasive blasting industries. Computational fluid dynamics related to the corresponding topics based on the commercial codes is also one of the specialties. Recent research in the laboratory is sponsored by government agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and Korea Agency for Defense Development.

We teach our students a holistic approach to engineering research, emphasizing proper experimentation to reveal the underlying physics of problems. Students in the laboratory conduct their research under the guidance of Professor Yeol Lee and ultimately write and present their own results at various technical meetings and journals. More than 16 graduate students have graduated until now based on research conducted in our laboratory.
